Sylvia Burks, Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. Ms Burks' practice focuses on the representation of established and emerging technology companies in the areas of corporate securities, mergers, acquisitions and strategic alliances, intellectual property matters, as well as general corporate representation.
Prior to joining Pillsbury, Ms. Burks was a partner at Coudert Brothers LLP in their Global Corporate Practice. She has practiced law at the German firm of Boden Oppenhoff & Schneider (now Linklaters), and also in the Competition Directorate at the Commission of the European Union in Brussels.
David Horning, Palo Alto Investors. Dr. David Horning is an investment analyst focusing on the energy technology and alternative energy sectors. Prior to joining Palo Alto Investors, he worked as a Senior Research Analyst at Washington Mutual where his responsibilities included modeling and analytical support for the valuation, hedging, and trading of mortgage-backed assets. Dr. Horning's work experience also includes five years as an engineer and project manager in the gas turbine industry. Most recently, he was a project manager at Capstone Turbine, an energy-technology company focused on the development and commercialization of microturbines for distributed energy applications.
Dr. Horning received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. His doctoral research focused on the ignition properties and combustion chemistry of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons and fuel additives. He also received his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, where he conducted research on lean-premixed combustion for gas turbine applications. Dr. Horning is also a CFA charterholder.
Steve Eichenlaub, Managing Director, Intel Capital. Steve has been with Intel and Intel Capital since 1998. As managing director of strategic investments aligned with Intel's central labs (the Corporate Technology Group) and head of the Cleantech investment focus, Steve leads a team of investment managers driving equity and/or technology licensing relationships with emerging companies, The objectives of his team's efforts are to expand, align and test the frontiers of technology via strategic relationships with early and mid-stage start-ups in the context of driving significantly positive financial returns for Intel.
Prior to Intel, Steve worked at leading software companies such as Adobe Systems, Mentor Graphics, and Silicon Compiler Systems, across a variety of roles including venture investing, mergers & acquisitions, business development, strategic marketing, product management, sales, and investor relations. He holds a BS degree in Electrical and Nuclear Engineering from UC Berkeley, and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.
Peter Nieh, Managing Director, Lightspeed Venture Partners. Peter is a founder of Lightspeed, covering the areas of cleantech, software and the Internet. He has twelve years of venture capital experience and seven years of operating experience.
Prior to Lightspeed, Peter worked in business development and product marketing at General Magic, a startup that before the emergence of the Web pioneered the development of e-commerce and electronic media services by partnering with the world's largest telecommunications service providers and consumer electronics companies. He also managed Acer's portable PC business in North America, where he launched the company's first laptop and notebook PCs. Before Acer, Peter was a strategy consultant at Bain & Company where he worked predominately with high-technology clients on product, sales and distribution strategies. While an undergraduate at Stanford, he worked at Apple Computer, where he helped to develop the power management system for Apple's first portable computer.
Matthew Trevithick, Partner, Venrock. Matt joined Venrock in 2004 after a 4-year investigation of energy-related applications of nanotechnology. Matt previously co-founded and sold two software companies - LiquidMarket, a product search and comparison shopping service, acquired by NBC Internet in 1999 and Flash Communications, a developer of instant messaging technology, acquired by Microsoft in 1998. In addition to his entrepreneurial efforts, Matt worked in project finance and currency trading in Tokyo, London, Singapore and New York. As a co-founder of two acquired companies, combined with his energy and finance background, Matt has an in-depth understanding of the entrepreneur and what it takes to get across the finish line.
