Economic and Trade Relationship between Wuxi and the United States
By now, US companies have invested in Wuxi with 854 projects, among which 338 are solely funded ones, with a contracted capital of US$3.22 billion and a paid-in capital of US$949.25 million. A great many world-famous multinational corporations have chosen Wuxi as a base for their global operation, such as GE, Caterpillar, Pfizer, DuPont, Kodak, Cummins, Seagate, Timken, Donaldson, Johnson Controls, and Jabil Electronics. At present, the United States is Wuxi’s largest export market and its third largest import partner. In 2007, over 21,000 companies in Wuxi conducted business with the United States with a trade volume of US$7.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 34.6% and accounting for 13.7% of that of Wuxi’s total. The main export products are mechanical and electronic equipment, textiles and clothing, base metal and metal products.
