Demo Night: Databases in the Cloud (plus 'Big Data' Report)
Agenda:
The analyst firm IDC just released predictions regarding the growth of data for typical enterprises. Over the next five years, most companies will double structured data under storage -- but will experience a seven-fold growth in unstructured data! The implications of the explosion in "big data" -- called Internet-scale data by some -- will be enormous, as traditional data storage solutions will fail to scale both technically and economically. A new breed of storage solutions that leverage cloud computing are available today, and we will examine the different approaches to marrying cloud computing to big data. Presenting will be Google App Engine on App Engine's Datastore; Cloudera on the distributed storage product Hadoop, and Aster Data on its parallelized relational data base.
Roger Magoulas, co-author of the O'Reilly "Big Data" report has agreed to give an overview presentation of how the cloud is enabling the use of massive amounts of data. Then we will have 3 demos by Google, Cloudera and Aster Data.
