Photovoltaic technology has been reducing its cost for energy production at a steady rate over the last twenty years. Recent focus and investments in this field target innovations that will accelerate the reductions in the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) that can be achieved by this technology. Key developments include higher efficiency cell architectures, the reemergence of concentrated photovoltaics, materials innovations, and balance-of-system (BOS) improvements.
This panel will discuss innovation opportunities using solar technologies.

Speaker Bios:
Robert B. Anderson, Partner, Nixon Peabody. Robert represents clients on a wide range of finance matters, including general commercial lending, asset-based lending, M&A finance, lease financing, real estate finance, letters of credit, and project finance and development. He works with lenders, borrowers, and other participants in structuring, negotiating, and documenting finance transactions, as well as restructuring financings that have become distressed. He is also active in the San Francisco Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth.
In the project development area, Robert works with developers, strategic partners, and finance providers on a variety of infrastructure and other large projects, including power plants, gas and oil pipelines, manufacturing plants, stadiums, and heavy industrial facilities.
Eugenia Corrales, CEO and Co-Founder, SunModular, Inc. Sunmodular is a manufacturer of heat transfer solutions for photovoltaic modules. Prior to starting Sunmodular, Eugenia was Vice President of Engineering for SolFocus, a manufacturer of high-concentration photovoltaic systems. From 2003 to 2007, Eugenia was a Vice President of Operations at Cisco Systems. While at Cisco, Eugenia led multiple organizations, including: New Product Introduction for all Cisco-branded products, Manufacturing Operations on $7B in revenue and the newly-formed Manufacturing Technology Group. Prior to joining Cisco in 1999, Eugenia held multiple leadership roles in product development and manufacturing at Hewlett Packard. Eugenia has a broad background, spanning over 20 years of industry experience, in the areas of product development, operations, manufacturing technology and field services.
Steve Horne, Chief Technical Officer, SolFocus. Steve Horne's technical and entrepreneurial background spans multiple disciplines including power generation and transmission, semiconductor test equipment design and manufacture as well as research in advanced renewables technology. Before co-founding SolFocus, Steve was the Director of Engineering at GuideTech, a leading semiconductor test equipment company, and had previously spent six years running a technology consulting firm known as Tuross Technology. He served as Vice President of Engineering at Ariel Electronics, where he was responsible for acquisition of company funding as well as integration of engineering disciplines ranging from mechanics, software, electronics and chemistry. His early-career experience includes commissioning two 500MW steam generated power plants in New South Wales, Australia.
Robert Horstmeyer, Managing Director, GrowthPoint Technology Partners. Robert has been assisting technology companies in the merger and acquisition process for over 13 years. During this time Mr. Horstmeyer has been involved in over 100 transactions and has enjoyed the opportunity to work with both large and small technology companies worldwide.Prior to his investment banking career, Mr. Horstmeyer was a manger and engineer at several technology businesses, including a defense-electro-optics company (night vision goggles, thermal imagers, laser range finders, etc.) and an energy capital equipment company. Mr. Horstmeyer holds patents in clean HVAC, horizontal drilling technology, and solar concentrators. He has personally been an active investor in technology start-ups in a variety of sectors from semiconductor capital equipment to optical telecom. Mr. Horstmeyer received a BS in Physics from the US Naval Academy and holds a master in Engineering from Stanford University. Bob MacDonald, Ph.D.: Co-Founder and CEO of Skyline Solar Inc. Bob has a proven track record of driving revenue growth, building market focus and optimizing operational efficiencies with emerging high-tech ventures. He led the product marketing program at SolFocus and prior to SolFocus, he co-founded and served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Onetta, a leading optical amplifier company. During his tenure, he secured funding from Sequoia Capital and Matrix Partners. Earlier in his career, Bob started the telecom components division of New Focus, Inc., brand of Bookham, Inc., a leader in developing, manufacturing photonics, which enabled the company’s successful IPO and secondary offerings. He holds a B.S.E.E. from Brown University, M.S.E.E. from Stanford University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Brown University.
