Topic:  Tropo & Moho: Disrupting telco with simple cloud-based communications

Abstract
--------------

Tropo is Voxeo's powerful yet simple API that adds not just Voice, but also SMS, Twitter, and IM support to popular programming languages including Groovy, JavaScript, PHP, Python and Ruby. ( http://tropo.com ). This talk will provide an overview of the technology used to build the stack that enables Tropo's communications APIs in the cloud.

Jason will go into how Voxeo leveraged media servers, SIP Servlets and Java/JRuby to create a standards-based stack for large scale real-time cloud communications that goes beyond voice to also provide multi-modal: SMS, Instant Messaging and Twitter. One of those standards is SIP, the Session Initiation Protocol widely used for controlling multimedia communication sessions over Internet Protocol.

Jason will also cover the open-source Moho Java API project ( http://labs.voxeo.com/moho ) that not only runs not only on Voxeo's SIP Servlet engine, but also on the open source Sailfin and Mobicents SIP application servers.

Presenter: Jason Goecke, VP of Innovation @ Voxeo Labs

Jason has over 20 years experience in computer telephony, voice solutions and open-source projects in engineering, product management, sales and general management roles. Jason is currently VP of Innovation for Voxeo Labs where he oversees development of key new initiatives for Voxeo, including Tropo. Most recently, Jason was a founder of Adhearsion, a widely used open-source voice development framework. Voxeo acquired Adhearsion in July, 2009 to create Voxeo Labs. Prior to Adhearsion, Jason served as VP of International at Presence Technology and served in a variety of technical and sales roles for Genesys, which was acquired by Alcatel-Lucent in 2000.
