IBM SMARTCAMP SILICON VALLEY LAUNCH EVENT 
Looking for global entrepreneurs who want to make a smarter planet.

SmartCamp is an exclusive networking and mentoring competition aimed at identifying early stage entrepreneurs who are developing business ventures which align with IBM's Smarter Planet initiative. Winning companies embody the Smarter Planet themes of Instrumented, Interconnected and Intelligent.

The start of the competition will be announced at the SmartCamp Silicon Valley Launch Event on March 15, with Ireland’s Prime Minister, Brian Cowen, as the guest of honor. Finalists of the earlier SmartCamp Dublin will also be showcased.

Five finalists will subsequently be selected from the entries to attend a one-day event later this year to be mentored by 25 leading entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts. One finalist will be chosen as SmartCamp Silicon Valley winner. Contest rules and instructions for the Silicon Valley competition will be provided at the event.

INNOVATION SYNERGIES: IRELAND AND SILICON VALLEY

Ireland’s Prime Minister, Brian Cowen, will be the guest speaker at a luncheon hosted by Enterprise Ireland.

The lunch will feature executives from some of Ireland’s most exciting companies.  It will be held immediately following the SmartCamp Silicon Valley launch event.

The ties that link the technology communities of Silicon Valley and Ireland are strong. For local semiconductor, software, telecom and social media giants, Ireland continues to represent a compelling R&D hub for its globalized workforce, culture of entrepreneurship and proximity to the European market.  Today, as Irish technology companies extend their US market presence, the exchange is even more dynamic. Programs and strategic partnerships are emerging to inspire growth for Ireland’s innovators and opportunity for Silicon Valley corporations and investors.
