Dr. Amr Awadallah, CTO, Cloudera. Dr. Awadallah co-founded VivaSmart in June of 1999. Yahoo! acquired VivaSmart in June 2000, and uses the VivaSmart technology as the core of the Yahoo! shopping service. Amr served as Vice President of Engineering, and led a team that used Hadoop extensively for data analysis and business intelligence across the Yahoo! online services. Before starting Cloudera, Amr was an Entreprenuer-in-Residence at Accel partners from June 2008 to Oct of 2008.
Asheem Chandna, Partner, Greylock. Asheem is a partner at Greylock and invests in startups that operate in cloud computing, data center, electronic payments, networking, management, security and virtualization. Asheem's current board seats include AppDynamics, Delphix, Imperva, Palo Alto Networks, TechProcess and Xsigo Systems. He was previously on the boards at CipherTrust (MCAF), NetBoost (INTC), PortAuthority Technologies (WBSN), Securent (CSCO), Sourcefire (FIRE) and invested in Aruba Networks (ARUN). Dr. Jie Cheng, Analytics Consulting, Acxiom. Jie leads Acxiom’s Analytic Consulting and Consumer-centric Marketing Solution Development, helping clients improve their return on marketing investment. Since he joined Acxiom in 2007, Jie has been leading the innovation of advanced analytic solutions to address new and challenging business issues by leveraging the latest consumer data, analytical techniques and information technology. Prior to joining Acxiom, Jie served as Senior Director of Analytic Services for Trilogy Enterprises. Jie earned his MSE & PhD in Computer Science with special interest in Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining from the University of Michigan.
Stacey Curry Bishop, Principal, Scale Venture Partners. Stacey focuses on Internet, digital media and software, particularly on Scale Venture Partners’ investments in software-as-a-service (SaaS). She led a research project on best practices for SaaS that resulted in investments in Omniture, (Acq: Adobe) and ExactTarget. Stacey has been involved in several of ScaleVP’s software investments, including Frontbridge and Placeware. Stacey joined Scale Venture Partners in 1999, and has worked closely with Arena, ExactTarget, Hubspot, mBlox, Omniture and Tripwire. Before ScaleVP, Stacey specialized in mergers and acquisitions in the Corporate Development & Strategy Group at Bank of America and held sales and marketing responsibilities at Syntel, an IT services firm. Stacey holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from the University of Michigan.
Vispi Daver, Partner, Sierra Ventures. Vispi is a Partner at Sierra Ventures, a Silicon Valley bay area based venture capital firm with over $1.5 Billion under management. Vispi focuses on investments in the Software sector and on driving the Firm's cross-border investments in India. Vispi serves on the boards of Parature, Revionics, Razorsight and CarWale and is a board observer at MakeMyTrip.com, Greenplum, Approva and Code Green Networks. Prior to Sierra Ventures, Vispi was in the Corporate Development group at Network Associates (McAfee, Inc.), a large-cap public company in infrastructure software. Prior to McAfee he ran product management for myCIO.com, a company that pioneered the delivery of desktop software online through the Internet.
Kevin Efrusy, Partner, Accel Partners. Kevin joined Accel in 2003. His background is primarily as an entrepreneur and operating executive. He served two stints as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers where he started Corio, an ASP/SaaS pioneer which went public on Nasdaq and was acquired by IBM in 2005. Later he built and served as the first CEO of IronPlanet, an online marketplace for heavy equipment with current annual gross sales over $500M. Prior to KPCB, Kevin worked at Zip2 and Bain & Company.
Peter Farago, Corporate and Product Marketing, Flurry. Peter brings over 15 years of marketing and product management experience spanning consumer packaged goods, video gaming and wireless industries. At Flurry, a leading mobile application analytics provider for iPhone and Android, Peter is charge of corporate and product marketing. Prior to Flurry, Peter led product marketing at mobile game maker, Digital Chocolate, helping build the company into a top-ten publisher world-wide. He joined Digital Chocolate from Electronic Arts, where he managed The Sims franchise, the #1 PC game of all-time. Peter holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Martin Hall, CEO, Karmashpere. Martin is the CEO and Founder of Karmasphere, a provider of desktop software for working with Big Data. A high tech veteran with over 20 years' business and engineering leadership experience, he was previously a co-founder of Aventail (acquired by SonicWall) and Stardust.com, (acquired by Penton Media). He has chaired a number of Internet industry groups and is an accomplished speaker on a wide range of business and technology topics. When he has free time, Martin designs, builds and launches high power rockets, and trains and competes in triathlons.
Sumeet Jain, Information Technology, CMEA. Summet joined CMEA Capital in 2008 in the Information Technology group. There he focuses on investments in the software and internet sectors. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Amitive, Applied Wave Research and WorkingPoint. He was previously with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in its technology investment banking group. Sumeet has earned a BS, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from Cornell University and a MBA in Entrepreneurial Management and Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Josh Klahr, Senior Director, Yahoo. Josh is the Senior Director of Product Management for Yahoo!'s User Data and Analytics team. In this role Josh is responsible for helping to develop the data and analytics capabilities that drive Yahoo!'s industry-leading consumer and advertiser experiences. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Josh was Director of Product management at Enkata, where he spearheaded the creation of Enkata's analytics-driven performance management platform. Josh holds dual Master's degrees in Engineering and Business Administration from Stanford University, and a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science from Brown University.
Ronny Kohavi, GM for Experimentation Platform, Microsoft. Ronny founded Microsoft's Experimentation Platform team with the mission to accelerate software innovation through trustworthy experimentation. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2005, Ronny was the director of data mining and personalization at Amazon.com, where he was responsible for personalization, automation, search engine marketing (SEM), consumer behavior/data mining, site experimentation, and automated e-mail.
Jeffrey T. Kreulen, PhD, Senior Manager, IBM. Dr. Kreulen leads a research and development team focused on analytical services, complex services modeling, and business architecture modeling. Dr. Kreulen's most recent work has been on the Business Insights Workbench (BIW) project, which integrates structured and unstructured information mining. The recipient of two IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards, Dr. Kreulen holds 16 patents and has published extensively including co-author of the book "Mining the Talk".
Lars Leckie, Principal, Hummer Winblad. Lars has played a key role in the firm's investments in Aria Systems, vKernel) and an unannounced company in the storage virtualization market. He was a co-founder of AutoFarm (now Novariant). Lars has a Masters of Science (Engineering) from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of business. He also holds an Engineering Physics degree from Queen's University (with Honors).
Dan'l Lewin, Corporate Vice President, Strategic and Emerging Business Development, Microsoft. Dan'l Lewin is responsible for Microsoft Corp.'s global relationships with startups, VCs and industry partners. His team supports software startups and established companies working on the Microsoft platform, while helping to develop local software economies worldwide through the Microsoft BizSpark program, Microsoft BizSpark One program, and the Microsoft Innovation Center program. Based in Silicon Valley, Lewin also has executive responsibility for the company's operations in Mountain View, CA.
Thomas M. McLaughlin, Manager of Business Development, Accept Software. Prior to joining Accept Software, was co-founder and CEO of Paxent Technologies, Inc. an early stage start-up from 2007 through 2009. Paxent provided an Open Source enterprise end to end solution for the Software Development Life Cycle. Our key differentiator was real time predictive analytics per every phase, and role in the development process. Our key markets were large IT organizations in banking and financial institutions.
Jeff Minich, VP of Marketing, CalmSea. Jeff is Vice President of Marketing at CalmSea, a cloud-based predictive analytics startup. Jeff has over 10 years of B2B and online marketing experience at early stage, venture-backed, and high-growth public software companies. Most recently, Jeff led platform marketing at Omniture, the industry leader in Web Analytics and Online Business Optimization. While at Omniture, Jeff helped to define the future of the online marketing industry with the Omniture Open Business Analytics Platform, consisting of joint solutions with over 200 leading marketing technology and service providers.
Peter Norvig, Director of Research, Google. Peter is Director of Research at Google Inc. He is a Fellow of the AAAI and the ACM and co-author of Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach, the leading textbook in the field. Previously, he has held positions as head of Computational Sciences at NASA and as a faculty member at USC and Berkeley.
Dr. DJ Patil, Chief Scientist, LinkedIn Corporation. DJ leads the Analytics and Data Teams at LinkedIn Corporation. He is responsible for all analytics projects including reporting, web analytics, as well as products on the site that take advantage of leveraging LinkedIn's unique data set. Some of their products include, People You May Know, Who Viewed My Profile, and the recommendation engines. Previous to LinkedIn, he was a Distinguished Research Scientist and the Director for Strategy, Product, and Analytics of Corporate Architecture at eBay Inc. He received a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego and a Doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Maryland.
James Phillips, NorthScale. A twenty year veteran of the software industry, James Phillips started his career writing software for the Apple II and TRS-80 microcomputer platforms. At age 17, he co-founded his first software company, Fifth Generation Systems, which was acquired by Symantec in 1993. Most recently, James was co-founder and CEO of Akimbi Systems, a Mayfield company acquired by VMware for $60 million in 2006 after two years of operations. James holds a BS in Mathematics and earned his MBA, from the University of Chicago.
Sanjay J. Poonen, Executive Vice President, SAP BusinessObjects Sales. Sanjay is Executive Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Business User (SAP BusinessObjects) Sales for SAP AG. He assumed this role in November 2009, and holds sales responsibility for the full portfolio of SAP BusinessObjects solutions.
Ken Rudin, VP and General Manager of Analytics, Zynga. Ken focused on ensuring that Analytics is a key strategic weapon for Zynga. He's responsible for managing Zynga's massive analytics platform and generating key insights that drive Zynga's strategy.
Joydeep Sen Sarma, Lead Engineer, Facebook. Joydeep bootstrapped and managed the Hadoop based batch computing infrastructure within Facebook and co-founded and built the first prototype of the Hive Data-Warehousing project. He also guided in the development of the Hadoop Fair Scheduler and played a critical role in evaluating HBase and other key-value stores for online storage at Facebook. Prior to Facebook, Joydeep served as the founding architect for Yahoo's in-house Recommendation Engine and worked for a number of years in the areas of High-Availability, Disaster-Recovery, File System Recovery and Scalability at Netapp where he was twice recipient of the annual Engineering Excellence Award.
Brett Sheppard, BigDataNews. Brett edits BigDataNews.com and helps technology companies pass the early adopter chasm as founder of Absolutely Inc. Brett joined Gartner Group as a Senior Analyst in 1996, as Business Intelligence and Analytics began to move from a relatively unknown discipline to a core enabler for enterprise competitiveness, and has gone on to work in leadership and consulting roles at several Fortune 500 organizations and technology startups. Brett is a frequent moderator and speaker at industry events, and has worked onsite with enterprises and governments in 30+ countries.
David Steier, Director of Research Center for Advanced Research, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). David has worked on a variety of analytics projects at PwC including the detection of fraud or error in general ledgers, health care claims review, and benchmarking based on SEC filings. Prior to working at PwC, David worked at several software and service startups, and was a member of the research faculty at Carnegie Mellon's Engineering Design Research Center. David's research interests are in data mining, machine learning, database integration and software engineering. David holds a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.
Jaap Suermondt, Director, HP Labs. Jaap is the Director of the Business Optimization Lab at HP Labs, leading a group of researchers and managers in analytics with expertise in data mining and the decision sciences, operations research, algorithms, statistics, marketing science and economics. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical and Computational Science from Stanford University and a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Medical Information Sciences from Stanford University School of Medicine. He is inventor or co-inventor on over 50 filed patent applications, with 27 patents granted so far.
Neel Sundaresan, Head of Research, eBay. Neel Sundaresan is a Senior Director at eBay where he heads eBay Research Labs. Dr. Sundaresan drives research and advanced technology work in the areas of Search, Classification, Recommender Systems, Trust & Reputation, Log Analysis, and Large Scale Distributed Computing. Prior to joining eBay he has several years of research and startup experience. Dr. Sundaresan was a the head of the eMerging Internet Technologies group at IBM Almaden Research Center where he pioneered research work in domain specific search engines, XML Technologies and Tools, and Web Mining. Dr. Sundaresan has over 50 publications and 55 patents to his credit and is a frequent speaker at research and technical conferences.
Owen Thomas, Executive Editor, VentureBeat. Owen is the executive editor of VentureBeat. In his 15 years covering technology and startups, he has worked at Wired, Time, Business 2.0, NBC, Gawker Media, and the Red Herring. He lives in San Francisco.
Kevin Weil, Twitter. Kevin leads the analytics team at Twitter, building distributed infrastructure and leveraging data analysis at a massive scale to help grow the popular micro-blogging service. With millions of monthly site visitors and many more interacting through API-based third party applications, Twitter has one of the world's most varied and interesting datasets. Prior to joining Twitter, Kevin led the analytics team at the Kleiner Perkins-backed web media startup Cooliris. Kevin earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics from Harvard University, and has a master's degree in Physics from Stanford University.
Harold Yu, Partner, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Harold is a member of Orrick's Emerging Companies Group, which advises emerging companies, public companies, venture capital firms and investment banks. He is the co-hiring partner for Orrick's Silicon Valley office. Harold represents public and private technology companies, focusing on formation, financing and general corporate counseling. |
